Day 5 – Joshua and the defeat at AI – Josh
Read It: Joshua 7:6-13
Live It:
We are back with one of the best books of the Bible! The book of Joshua is known as a chronicle of triumph and victory for God’s people. This story is one of the few that doesn’t fit that narrative. In this passage, hopelessness for Joshua is defeat–when he was supposed to find victory after victory.
How many of us find ourselves in that same scenario? We start to see those victories; we begin to expect success then BAM, a crushing blow! God met Joshua in his moment of grief and despair. He did not keep him there in his feelings of hopelessness but stirred him to action.
Hopelessness is not a place to dwell in but a place to spring forth!
In this case that spring required action. I love the end of verse 12. We must destroy the things among us that have been set apart for destruction. Even in those hopeless moments, we can search our lives with the Lord to find those things that should not remain.
Just like the Israelites, that purification brings us back to where we need to be in order to continue living out a story of triumph and victory!
