Read it: Romans 6:1-14
Live it: What a powerful question is posed to begin today’s reading: “…should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of His wonderful grace?” You will notice the apostle Paul’s emphatic answer: “Of course not!” Pay close attention to why Paul says we are not to continue sinning. Now that we have been made alive by His wonderful grace, we are dead to sin.
Since our old sinful selves have been crucified with Christ, we now are empowered by His grace to live entirely new lives. Being dead to sin does not just happen automatically. Notice verse 11: “So you should also consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.”
In verse 12 the apostle gives his readers a strong imperative. He says, “Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.” What a powerful admonition! What action do you need to take to prevent sin from having control of your life?
