Read It : Matthew 22:23-33 NLT
Live It : Holy Tuesday is filled with the teachings of Jesus. So many teachings that it would be difficult to focus on all of them in one devotional. Instead, let us focus on one particular conversation that Jesus was having that shows how important it is for us to apply all of His teachings to our lives.
There were these religious leaders who were trying to argue with Jesus, trying to debate with Jesus, trying to trap Jesus.
They are asking him about some obscure issue with a widow marrying another man, and what that looks like for eternity. Perhaps something to think about, but nothing to get hung up about. The entire point of their questions was to stir up trouble and try to trip up Jesus.
But Jesus responds in such a powerful way.
Matthew 22:29
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.
WOW! Jesus was unafraid to speak the truth boldly. “You don’t know Scripture and you don’t know the power of God.”
Jesus doesn’t play around with these arguments. In conversation with these same people, he says, “Have you even read Scripture?”
Jesus doesn’t play around with these individuals, but more importantly, Jesus doesn’t play around with our lives either.
We need to understand this powerful truth.
JESUS WANTS THE BEST FOR YOU, BOTH NOW AND FOR ETERNITY.
And to live the best life, he has given us his Word to show us how to live. But you won’t live the best way, His way, unless you READ HIS WORD.
Psalm 119:11
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
On this Holy Tuesday, be reminded that God has given us His word. Don’t take it for granted. Read His Word. Memorize His Word. Live His Word. READ IT…LIVE IT!
Be encouraged to make this commitment. “I WILL hide your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
